Cheryl Stockton discovered MCC more-or-less by accident when friends mentioned it in a casual conversation. She cites Rev. Elder Freda Smith’s sermon, “Purple Grass,” as her favorite and says that Rev. Troy Perry’s influence on her has been profound.

Chuck Larson was raised in the Catholic Church and was pastoring a Presbyterian Church in Georgia (USA), when he made a trip to Florida (USA) specifically to meet Rev. Troy Perry. Less than a month later, Chuck was elected as the Pastor of MCC Tampa, and he continued his ministry in MCC, pastoring 7 different churches before he retired. He says his proudest moment as an MCC member came in the early 1980s when he and other members of Resurrection MCC took Cuban refugees into their homes.

Chuck Harvey has participated extensively in lay leadership within MCC and has many memories of the Northwest District and MCC’s transition to a Regional structure. Chuck very much values the strength and importance of the local church within the larger MCC denomination, and particularly likes the traditions of emphasizing social justice issues and embracing inclusive language.

CJ Young was born in Guam and grew up in the Methodist Church. She discovered MCC through the recommendation of a friend who, ironically, does not attend any church. CJ cites the peaceful influence of her current pastor, Rev. Cathy Porter, and the sense of feeling welcome and at home in MCC as superlatives in her MCC experience.
