About this Project

As part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Metropolitan Community Churches on October 6, 2008, the MCC’s Archive and Oral History Project

In Our Own Words MCC

is under development to share many of the important events in MCC’s history as a movement, ministry and community.

This is a vast long term project that seeks to gather the narrative and oral histories from MCC’s conception in 1968 and proceed to the present.

We understand that the key to our future and lies in our past. As the future generation of MCC begins to age and step into leadership, we owe it to them to openly and honestly discuss our past. We must record and remember our successes. We must also remember the things didn’t work so well. It is often said that if we don’t remember our past, we are sure to repeat it and there are no better teachers than those who’ve gone before.

We embark on this project with the understanding that all have a place because all have made us the beacon of hope we are in the world today.

Join us and be a part of the wonderful movement and ministry that is Metropolitan Community Churches.  History is made by those who are willing to share it, write it down, and record it. We hope that your experience here is one that connects you with the rich past as you are able to watch videos, hear oral histories, read transcripts, and connect with MCCers who have lived it.

If you are one of our many contributors to MCC’s legacy, we hope you will participate and give back to MCC what MCC has given to you.
